PawsitivelySafe

Jan Gilmer has always loved animals & planned on turning that love into a career as a veterinarian until she learned that being a vet also meant sometimes having to put animals down.

With this new insight she turned her interests towards rescue and advocacy. Little did she realize that this path would lead to just as much, if not more, heartache and sadness, but she wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Jan has always enjoyed writing and educating and soon connected these two interests with her passion for animals becoming not only an author, but a strong, outspoken advocate for those she wrote about in her articles. She is an award winning poet, content developer and educator who regularly contributes to Suite 101,  List My 5Associated Content and BrightHub.

Jan surrounds herself with rescues, all of which just seem to ‘find their way to her’. Her household currently consists of 3 dogs & 7 cats with an occasional foster thrown in to keep things interesting. She enjoys participating in animal transports and does so as often as she can fit them in to her schedule. Scheduling is sometimes tight, especially in the late spring to early fall seasons when animal events are at their peak.

Jan participates in many events from awareness to adoption events, doing everything from photography for the event, working booths, writing PR articles, helping with fundraising and so much more. Working these events is definitely a highlight for her.

A former animal rescue manager, shelter volunteer, dog training participant, and dog trainer student, Jan definitely knows all about dogs & cats and their behaviors.  Her writings have been found atDogsDeserveBetter.com, and on her own Web site pawsitivelysafe.org

Jan has also ventured into the training arena and uses her years of training her own dogs as well as the tons of info she constantly seeks out and consumes on animals, to guide her to the methods she feels are best.

It’s safe to say Jan’s life evolves around her two innate passions, animals & writing. She has a blog at pawsitivelysafe.org, as well as a FB fan page of the same name, where she shares trivia, tips and advice to her growing network.

Jan’s animal related articles can be found all over the web and she currently has two different books under way. Jan hopes to help educate the public on not only the best care for their pets, but also the main theme of her life – that ALL living things deserve respect, care and love.
